  17. <p>    It has taken LARRY FISHBURNE half a lifetime to become an
  18. overnight success. His performance as the moral powerhouse
  19. Furious Styles in John Singleton's 1991 Boyz N the Hood thrust
  20. him to the forefront of African-American stars, but Fishburne
  21. made his first film at 14: the two-year trial by fire of Francis
  22. Coppola's Apocalypse Now. Spielberg's The Color Purple and Spike
  23. Lee's School Daze followed. But Boyz has opened the floodgates:
  24. in April alone, Fishburne made his Broadway debut in Two Trains
  25. Running as an engaging but irresponsible ex-con while starring
  26. as an upright policeman in the movie thriller Deep Cover. "I've
  27. always been confident that I could tackle just about anything."
